Sci-fi finds a home. (science fiction on cable television)

Cable nets are drawing audiences while minimizing their risks with science fiction. What television programmer wouldn't love to create another Star Trek franchise? That's why cable, looking at the huge success that science fiction has enjoyed in the movies as well as on television, is betting big on that genre for its original series.

Showtime has a host of original sci-fi series on, including Stargate SG-1, The Outer Limits, The Hunger and Poltergeist: The Legacy. In fact, Showtime has just created a full night, "Sci-Friday," built around those shows.
