A recent tour of AT&T Broadband & Internet Services' new digs south of Denver makes one wonder how long ago the building's planner -- former TeleCommunications Inc. chairman John Malone -- was envisioning a linkup with Ma Bell. The circular, doughnut-like design of the sparkling new facility -- planned before AT&T Corp.

acquired TCI -- mirrors that of AT&T'S internationally known "Death Star" corporate logo. But the three-story building itself is anything but dark or threatening. Inside its curving, light stone walls is an airy setup filled with natural light, relatively low-walled cubicle work spaces and a central hallway intended to promote mingling by employees as they move about.
