Cox, Multimedia Could Be Near Deal.

ATLANTA -- Several informed sources confirmed last Friday that Cox Communications Inc. was in intense negotiations to purchase Multimedia Cablevision Inc., the cable-television arm of Gannett Co., and a deal could be announced this week. Although no details were available, the deal was expected to be worth about $2.7 billion, or some $5,300 per subscriber.
Gannett has been shopping around Multimedia, which has about 508,000 subscribers in Kansas and Oklahoma, for about one month. Interested MSOs include Comcast Corp., Adelphia Communications Corp., Charter Communications and the Washington Post Co., according to sources.
