Canal Plus S.A. and British Sky Broadcasting Group plc.(Brief Article)

PARIS -- Ties between Canal Plus S.A. and British Sky Broadcasting Group plc increased last week as French utility Vivendi S.A. moved to boost its stakes in the companies. Vivendi agreed to buy 15 percent of Canal Plus from Compagnie Financiere Richemont A.G. -- a move that will give it 49 percent of Europe's biggest pay TV company.
At the same time, Vivendi increased its stake in BSkyB to 24.5 percent from 17 percent after it bought stakes from Pearson plc and Granada Group plc.
