More forward-looking cable companies are now testing the e-commerce waters -- most recently MediaOne, with its investment last week in Netgate-way Inc., a company that creates and manages electronic-shopping portals. But it's going to be extremely challenging -- no, let's make that daunting -- for cable to be able to deliver the high levels of customer satisfaction that companies like Amazon.com have mastered in their very short lives, and that customers like me now expect and will soon demand.
