Rhythms NetConnections, the Englewood, Colo.-based digital-subscriber-line network provider, spiked after the company confirmed it has signed a contract to provide DSL services to AT&T Corp. Rhythms would not release details of the deal. The stock, however, traded up $3.25 per share early Sept.

21 -- to $38.13, from the previous close of $34.88, before finishing the day at $35.19. AT&T has said that it plans to launch DSL service in 17 markets this year and in 100 cities by the end of next year.
