Multichannel News, December, 1999
PALO ALTO, CALIF. -- The Digital Video Broadcasting consortium has added Sun Microsystems Inc.'s "Java" software technology to its standard for digital interactive television. Sun said the inclusion of Java -- its programming language that enables software developers to create applications that are usable on a variety of television receivers -- would enable the completion of DVB'S "Multimedia Home Platform" specification by early next year.
MHP is a software specification for TV set-top boxes, digital-TV receivers and multimedia personal computers, and it is intended to enable the devices to access content and applications from broadcasting, the Internet and telecommunications networks.
