McCain: Bolster Online Privacy Safeguards.(Brief Article)

WASHINGTON -- Because the Internet and electronic commmerce reach more Americans than ever before, it's time to craft stronger online privacy laws, Sen. John McCain (RAriz) said last week. McCain, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said during a Thursday hearing that the exponential increase in consumer use of the Internet warrants a new focus on privacy.
He called the hearing to discuss the results of a Federal Trade Commission online privacy study released earlier this month. "Improving the depth of privacy policies is the primary factor motivating my interests in this matter," said McCain, who hopes to spark discussion of this issue.
