Chicago Council OKs New RCN Franchises.(Chicago City Council, RCN Corp.)(Brief Article)

CHICAGO -- The Chicago City Council has given RCN Corp. approval to expand to three more franchise areas in town. RCN, through its acquisition of 21st Century Telecom, has already overbuilt AT&T Broadband in the city's Area 1, which serves the so-called "Gold Coast." That area has just over 300,000 homes. The new franchises will triple RCN's potential market, to 900,000 homes.
