In an effort to jump-start what many see as a stalled digital-television rollout, the Consumer Electronics Association and the National Association of Broadcasters have agreed to join forces on a consumer-marketing campaign set for a fall launch in several test markets. The announcement, made by CEA president Gary Shapiro and NAB president Eddie Fritts at the broadcast group's recent convention in Las Vegas, was set against the backdrop of the so-called DTV Store, which offered high-definition and digital televisions from a number of consumer-electronics manufacturers.
Many observers decry the transition from analog to digital broadcasting as slow at best. And although few expect broadcasters to meet a 2006 switch-out date to give back their analog...
