WASHINGTON - Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and NBC, locked in a seven-month dispute over election-night videos, passed the peace pipe last week. As a result, it was unclear whether Waxman would go forward with his threat to seek a subpoena for the tapes. The congressman and NBC opened talks last week in an attempt to settle their differences.
But despite the talk of compromise, it remained only a hope that a deal could be reached amicably. Waxman aide Phil Schuliro said that he had been in touch with NBC about a compromise, but would not predict that a deal could be reached. "I really don't want to say that.
