SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. -- Not too surprisingly, sales of equipment for providing digital subscriber line broadband telecom services have dropped sharply this year amid an economic slowdown and the demise of numerous competitive DSL service providers, according to a study from RHK Inc.

Research and consulting firm RHK said its data indicates that the overall North American DSL market dropped by 44 percent, to $729 million, in the first half of this year compared with the previous six months. The first-half 2001 revenue also marked a 6.3 percent decline from the same period of 2000.
