USA Networks Inc. is developing a transactional and television-commerce companion service to its USA Travel Channel project. Both are likely candidates for the proposed interactive-TV offerings Vivendi Universal S.A. will first provide to direct-broadcast satellite operator EchoStar Communications Corp.

The services would then migrate to cable operators. USA chairman Barry Diller confirmed the initiative after he announced the company's plan to merge its cable-network and TV--and film-production units into Vivendi's entertainment operations for $10.3 billion in cash and stock last Monday.
