Cable networks have succumbed to "March Madness," debuting a slew of high-profile original movies and series this month. Five networks have slated premieres from March 9 to March 17. Both ESPN and Court TV will screen their first original movies, while FX will unveil its first hour-long dramatic series, The Shield.
"Great minds think alike," quipped Court TV CEO Henry Schleiff. Cable programmers have their reasons for scheduling around the ides of March. Looking to sidestep the February sweeps and the Winter Olympics, they also hope to make an impression on Madison Avenue prior to the upfront.
