Dish Network subscribers who pay close attention to EchoStar Communications Corp. chairman Charlie Ergen in his monthly Charlie Chats may recall from a trivia question that his favorite holiday movie is It's a Wonderful Life.

Ergen took a page from another holiday movie, Miracle on 34th Street, during a Chat last Monday. In a move reminiscent of the film's Macy's vs. Gimbel's promotional ploy, Ergen told subscribers who couldn't find YES on Dish to go down the block and find the Yankees on the company's competitors. Dish even posted phone numbers for DirecTV Inc. and cable systems in the New York metropolitan area that carry YES, including Time Warner Cable, RCN Corp., Comcast Corp., Charter Communications Inc., Cox Communications Inc., Adelphia...
