Playboy stock was up 10 percent, or 96 cents, in the five days leading to Sept. 11, after the company hired anew editorial director--former Maxim executive editor James Kaminsky--for its flagship men's magazine. Kaminsky was expected to inject new life into the sagging soft-core skim mag, and that could drive new viewers to other adult-oriented products. While Playboy is not the company's biggest moneymaker--its filmed entertainment unit and cable networks are--it is considered to be the company's biggest driver for brand recognition.
