Starz gives ops two HDTV options: 1080i and smaller high-resolution feeds on tap from premium programmer.(high definition television)

Starz Encore Group LLC today (June 9) will announce the launch of separate HDTV and high resolution TV feeds of Starz!. The premium programmer also intends to provide operators with a separate best-of-Starz! SuperPak HDTV movie channel, to be packaged in the $9.95 basic HD tier contemplated by many operators.
With the moves, Starz Encore joins rivals Home Box Office and Showtime Networks Inc. in the 1080i HDTV space. But the company also will offer operators a bandwidth-saving high-resolution Starz! feed that will use 5.6 Megabits per channel, versus HDTV's 17.6 Mb.
