Gemstar settles suit with Thomson. (This Just In).(Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc.)(Brief Article)

PASADENA, CALIF. -- To mend fences, Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Thomson that settles a legal tiff. Gemstar's interactive programming guide can be used in the French electronics makers RCA TV sets and digital set-tops, and Thomson can continue using Gemstar-TV Guide technology in North American satellite receivers.
Separately, DirecTV Inc. tapped Thomson subsidiary Canal Plus Technologies to supply middleware for new digital set-tops.
