TNT races to monthly win: stock-car racing drives drama net to top primetime slot in July.(Turner Network Television and Disney Channel report strong ratings)

The lure of NASCAR was enough to drive Turner Network Television into primetime's victory lane in July. Lifted by its July 20 New England 500 and July 27 Pennsylvania 500 National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing telecasts--the second- and third-highest-rated shows of the month--TNT averaged a 2.0 for the June 30 to July 27 period.

That marked an 11% increase over the corresponding period last year, according to an ABC Cable Networks Group analysis of Nielsen Media Research data. Disney Channel, boosted by strong performances from original films The Even Stevens Movie and Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off, finished in second place with a 1.8 household rating (up 29%), even with Lifetime Television (down 10%).
