Telco forays into video--and Verizon Communications Inc.'s fiber-to-the-premises buildout in particular--became a reoccurring side note during last week's two-day Goldman Sachs & Co. Communacopia media conference in New York. But Verizon's potential video competitors, including direct-broadcast satellite and cable providers, shrugged off the competition.

And even some of the other regional bell operating companies said FTTP was too expensive a proposition for them, today.
