Akimbo launches net TV service.(Brief Article)

SAN MATEO, CALIF. -- Akimbo Systems rolled out its Internet video-on-demand service last week through Amazon.com, which is selling Akimbo players for $229.99. Consumers can sign up for the service at Akimbo's Web site (www.amazon.com).
Akimbo is offering a three-month free trial of the service, which normally costs $9.99 a month. Akimbo offers 50 categories of VOD content, ranging from movies, news, health and fitness, sports, education and children's programming. Among the more high-profile content partners are Cable News Network, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, QuickSilver and Granada International.
