LINTHICUM, MD, -- Ciena Corp, has sold its new CN 4350 Ether net Services Provisioning Switch to Armstrong Cable, allowing the MSO to improve transport efficiency by transporting video, voice and data across a single switch. The new switch can serve to replace Internet protocol touters, said Ciena marketing product director Mitch Auster, who said the device is both cheaper and more reliable than today's IP-router configurations.

The product is an upgrade to Internet Photonics Inc.'s 4300 GSLAM product line, Auster said. "This is a carrier grade, packet-based switch, not an enterprise-class switch," he said.
