CHICAGO -- Playboy Enterprises Inc. reported strong fourth-quarter results last week, on the strength of its adult-entertainment cable channels. Playboy reported earnings of $14.5 million (43 cents per share) in the quarter, compared with a loss of $6.7 million (26 cents) in the same period a year ago.
At the Entertainment Group, including cable channels and online operations, segment income rose 69%, to $14.6 million, on a 9% revenue increase to $53.2 million. Playboy cited increased U.S. cable video-on-demand and satellite-TV revenue, higher international television revenue, growth in online subscriptions and lower programming amortization expenses.
