Verizon heads to the beach.(Verizon Communications Inc. to move to Southern California)(Brief Article)

Multichannel News, December, 2005

Los ANGELES -- Verizon Communications Inc.'s multichannel video service is eyeing the beach in Southern California.

On Dec. 13, the Hermosa Beach, Calif., City Council voted to approve a cable franchise for the telephone company. This will be its fourth franchise in the state, and its first in Los Angeles County. None of the California video operations have been activated yet.

The council will take a final vote in January.

Verizon will compete against Time Warner Cable, which is acquiring the Adelphia Communications Corp. system in the town.

The 15-year franchise requires Verizon to serve every dwelling in town within 125 feet of the telco's trunk lines.
