Cable and satellite honchos were on Capitol Hill last week as the Senate Commerce Committee began examining ways to curb indecent TV fare. Cable continued to tout moves toward voluntary family tiers, but lawmakers like Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.)--who's pushing for FCC regulation of violent shows--are cool to that notion.
The idea of family tiers without sports channels like ESPN also drew jeers from senators. And a cable rival, EchoStar's Charlie Ergen, played up the merits of a la carte channel sales. Ted Hearn reports STEVENS 6
