Starz spies opportunity in urban originals.(Starz Entertainment Group)(Brief Article)

Looking for a stake in ground that's already been well-trod by rivals HBO and Showtime, Starz Entertainment Group is tapping into the urban young adult demographic to gain traction with original programming.

This week, the programmer's StarzEdge multiplex service will launch Jacked, a quarterly series that will give stars of music and entertainment like rapper Ludacris the opportunity to let their creative juices flow. Potentially on tap for later this year: a take on African American-themed Broadway plays and a Star Search-style talent hunt. R. Thomas Umstead has more in Programming.
