The Internet protocol TV market in North America for now is on a relatively modest growth track, according to Oyster Bay, N.Y.-based ABI Research. But looming regulatory changes could alter the picture. In North America, there are about 240,000 total IPTV subscribers right now, according to ABI statistics.
That could climb to 450,000 customers by the end of this year. Long range, ABI sees IPTV households in North America growing to about 8 million by 2011. But that lags far behind projections for Asia and Europe, where IPTV subscribers will rise to 21 million and 13 million, respectively, in the same time period.
