Rice University Licenses Nanotube Technology.

Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc. (CNI) has signed a letter of intent with Rice University granting CNI an exclusive license for a broad array of technology related to the production of single-wall carbon nanotubes (Buckytubes).

This technology has been developed over the past several years under the direction of Richard E. Smalley, the Nobel Prize-winning director of the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology at Rice and cofounder of CNI. In 1995, Smalley and his group developed a laser vaporization technique for producing Buckytubes. Since 1998, they have provided more than 200 small research samples to facilitate characterization and applications research through a Rice University-affiliated operation known as Tubes @ Rice.
