Convenience stores ring up bigger beer sales than supermarkets, drug stores, supercenters and wholesale clubs combined, according to data published by ACNielsen, Adams Beverage Group and other sources. The c-store industry's annual beer sales exceed $12 billion, according to those same sources. As the leading off-premise channel for beer, then, the c-store industry is of great significance to the beer industry--and vice versa.
It is estimated that about three quarters of the nation's 132,424 c-stores sell beer; and it is well known that in those stores, beer constitutes the second-largest in-store sales category. So what merchandising methods can retailers implement to get the most out of this vital category?
