At the ShoWest 2003 trade show in Las Vegas on March 3, Texas Instruments demonstrated its new 2K-resolution DLP Cinema Projector technology, quieting critics who believed that TI had unwittingly taken itself out of the digital-cinema resolution race. Designed to broaden TI's current DLP Cinema technology-enabled products offered by such manufacturers as BARCO, Christie and NEC View-technology/Digital Projection, the 2K-resolution system is capable of projecting on commercial theaters with large, premiere-quality screens.
The 1080I/24P chip has an actual picture-format resolution of 1.89K. It projects 4:3 digital-cinema video at full array. Use of an anamorphic lens will project 16:9 video within the letterbox format. "We think we killed any discussion that was...
