Compiled by Carl Molesworth U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administrator Ed Foulke has unveiled a nationwide Voluntary Protection Program initiative aimed at meeting the unique needs and characteristics of the construction industry. VPP is OSHA's premier safety recognition partnership between industry and government.

Firms that achieve VPP status receive special recognition and benefits from OSHA, such as removal from OSHA's programmed inspection list and automatic penalty reductions if citations are levied.
