New DOT Secretary Confirmed.

Compiled by Carl Molesworth One action the Senate did complete before recessing was to confirm Mary Peters to take the helm of the Department of Transportation. Peters will replace former DOT Secretary Norman Mineta, who left the position in July after serving the longest tenure of any secretary in DOT history.

Peters worked 15 years at the Arizona Department of Transportation, where she rose to the position of director. She headed the Federal Highway Administration between 2001 and 2005 and was most recently employed at HDR Inc., an architectural, engineering and consulting firm.
