Sumitomo Electric Industries announces commercial production of SFP+ transceivers.(NEW PRODUCTS)

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (SEI) announced that a new line of SFP transceivers for 10Gbps applications is available in production quantities. The SPP series is designed to meet IEEE802.3ae and 802.3aq specifications for 10G Ethernet. The SFP is the next-generation transceiver package for 10Gbps Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications, offering a more compact form factor than currently offered by the X2 and XFP packages and low power consumption of less than 1 watt. By removing the clock and data recovery (CDR) and electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) functions from the transceiver, the new SFP achieves the same size as the industry-standard SFP form factor now used for data rates up to 4Gbps.
