Sam Y. Zamrik , a technical consultant and professor emeritus of engineering mechanics at Penn State was named president-elect of ASME during the 2006 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress in Chicago. His one-year term as president begins in June, 2007.

A member of ASME for more than 34 years, Zamrik is a society fellow and served as a member of the board of governors from 2002 to 2005. His other service positions include a stint as vice president of materials and structures from 1999 to 2002, and he served on the board of professional development from 1995 to 2001.
