* About 60% of people over 65 will require at least some type of long-term care during their lifetime. On average, someone age 65 today will need some care for about three years. But it's important to remember that this represents an average of all users. Service and support needs vary from one person to the next and often change over time.

* From 2005 to 2020, the number of people 65 and older and the number of people 85 and older will increase by almost one-half (48% and 43%, respectively). The number of seniors between 65 to 74 will increase by 70%.

* In 2005, more than 15% of the population was 65 or older in just three states (Florida, West Virginia and Pennsylvania). By 2020, 42 states are projected to exceed that percentage.
