Bush nominates Neb. Gov. Mike Johanns as 28th USDA Secretary.(George W. Bush selected Nebraska Governor as United States Department of Agriculture's new Secretary)

Two weeks of speculating who will be the next USDA Secretary finally drew to a close Dec. 2 with President George W. Bush nominating Nebraska Gov. Mike Johanns (R) for the post.

As the process dragged on, PF Washington consultant Jim Wiesemeyer said he began picking up that it would likely be someone that wasn't on the short or long "list" of candidates that was floating around Washington. Johanns clearly wasn't on anyone's radar screen--not even Jim's!
