Syngenta AG will reportedly ask for GMO approval of a corn trait the company says it won't commercialize for sale. Syngenta says it has no intention of bringing Bt10 corn to the market, but because some of the seed escaped into commercial corn production and is now showing up in shipments to Japan, the company is proposing a classic "close-the-barn-door-after-the-horse-gets-out" approach to dealing with its problem. Syngenta will reportedly ask the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to approve Bt10 corn for food and feed use.

USDA and the EPA have already said Bt10 corn offers no threat to people, plants or animals and Syngenta says the trait is very similar to an already approved Bt11. We've learned FDA will put this request on a fast track. And, based on...
