ICE vs. CME over CBOT.

Pro Farmer, March, 2007

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) officials recently made a play to purchase the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT)--which followed the Chicago Mercantile's (CME) offer to buy the CBOT earlier this year. Sources on the floor of the CBOT say most members still favor the CME offer. REASON: The CBOT and CME clear about 10 million trades a day.

After bringing some smaller exchanges under the ICE umbrella, the exchange still clears only about 600,000 trades a day. In this case, CBOT members see "safety in numbers."
