Here are some of the commonly asked questions from Pro Farmer Members following the March 30 Prospective Plantings Report:

* "Where did the extra acres come from for 2007 plantings?"

"Extra acres" refers to the total number of acres planted to all crops ... from corn, to hay, to sugar beets, tobacco and Austrian dry peas ... compared to 2006. What it doesn't include is pasture. In 2006, there were just over 314.25 million acres planted to crops. In 2007, planting intentions indicate there will be just over 319.75 million acres planted. So, where did the "extra" 5.5 million come from? Some of those planted acres will come from torn-up pasture and reclaimed CRP ground ... but not many. Keep in mind ... each year is different with prevent-plant taking...
