Phone.com proxy server enhances transmission security.

Phone.com Inc. is introducing its Security Enterprise Proxy server this week, an enterprise software product designed to enhance the security of WAP transmissions to and from corporate or banking back-end systems. "It's to get around the security issues people have with WAP," said Ben Linder, vice president of marketing at Phone.com.

"It allows encrypted content to go through the phone to their own back-end systems." In current WAP systems, data from the phone is encrypted using a technology called Wireless Transport Layer Security before being sent to the WAP gateway located at the carrier's network. Once at the gateway, it is decrypted for a moment and re-encrypted using Secure Socket Layer technology, the encryption standard of the Internet. ...
