New entrant spices up New Zealand auction.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand-- Clear Communications, has entered New Zealand's auction of third-generation and second-generation wireless spectrum. The auction has been going on since mid July. As of round 208, the total bid amounts in the auction were $42.7 million. Clear's bids totaled $8.4 million for four separate 3G lots.

It also held the high bids for four lots of 2G spectrum. "With New Zealand's mobile market currently at 40 percent penetration and broadband technology developing quickly, Clear believes there is ample room for growth and for innovation in terms of mobility technology and solutions," said Peter Kaliaropoulos, the company's chief executive.
