NEC targets teen wireless users with safety initiative.

NEC Wireless has a new mobile phone program specifically targeting the lucrative teen-age market. But the company isn't selling phones or wireless services in its classroom presentations, which are led by Miss Dallas Teen USA 2000--instead, safe mobile-phone use is the issue. "What we're encouraging is for them to take matters into their own hands," said Tyra Jordan, a NEC spokeswoman.

"Dial Smart: Choose How U Use" got started earlier this month in a Dallas high school classroom. Jenna Hopper, this year's Miss Dallas Teen and the spokeswoman for the program, headed up a teen-to-teen discussion on the right and wrong ways to use a mobile phone.
