Sonera to cut 70 jobs from Zed mobile Internet portal.

RCR Wireless News, May, 2001

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--Sonera Corp. said it will cut about 70 jobs from its Zed mobile Internet portal, citing slower revenues and a rough foreign expansion. The mobile Internet unit now employees about 400 people in the United States and Europe. The Zed portal launched in the United States in March, and offers a variety of services, including ringing tones and icons, games, horoscopes, movie times, restaurant guides and up-to-the-minute stock prices as well as lottery numbers, quizzes and news.

The company said its service is the "best bet" for operators who want to appeal to the youth audience.
