WASHINGTON--Notwithstanding pressure from the Bush administration and some of the top nationwide wireless carriers to defer a decision on allowing ultra-wideband technologies until next year, the Federal Communications Commission said last week it plans to adopt rules at its meeting Wednesday.

Ultra-wideband, or pulse technology, uses short, low-powered and fast (up to one-trillionth of a second) pulses to transmit digital data over a range of frequencies.
