Metallic Power, Nextel announce fuel cell test. (Business).

ORLANDO, Fla.-Metallic Power, which develops zero-emission, regenerative zinc/air fuel cells, announced at CTIA's Wireless 2002 that Nextel Communications Inc. will conduct testing and evaluation of Metallic Power fuel cells as a backup power source for its cellular base stations. "Metallic Power proposes a unique concept for cell site backup operation with their zinc/air technology," said Barry J.

West, Nextel's executive vice president and chief information officer. "Nextel is eager to explore how this technology may serve to help ensure maximum performance for our customers."
