Bell Mobility launches lx service in Montreal. (Global Wireless).

MONTREAL-Canadian wireless operator Bell Mobility launched its cdma2000 1x network in Montreal with plans to extend coverage in major urban centers across Quebec this summer and in its national coverage area throughout this year. The carrier originally introduced 1x service in Toronto earlier this year.

Bell Mobility said its next-generation network is capable of supporting data speeds of up to 144 kilobits per second with what it calls "cruising speeds" of up to 86 kbps. Kyocera Corp.'s 2255 handset is currently the only device available for the network, but Bell Mobility said it plans to introduce a Samsung handset and a sierra Wireless AirCard soon. Price plans start at around $15 per month for 3 megabits of data, or occasional users can pay...
