Alltel Corp. withdrew a $1 billion shelf offering filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission last May, but left intact a $5 billion shelf offering that it filed last month. The company said it plans to use proceeds from that shelf offering to finance its pending acquisition of Century Tel Inc.'s wireless assets and wireline properties from Verizon Communications.
