AT&T Wireless says E911 fine unfair. (News).

WASHINGTON--VoiceStream Wireless Corp. and Cingular Wireless L.L.C. are under investigation for not meeting enhanced 911 Phase II implementation deadlines, which came to light as the wireless industry learned AT&T Wireless Services Inc. was slapped with a $2.2 million fine for the same thing.

The Federal Communications Commission is fining AT&T Wireless $2.2 million for missing implementation deadlines in at least 12 markets and for misrepresenting when it would begin selling compliant handsets. The carrier received a waiver from E911 rules in part because AT&T Wireless told the agency it would sell only compliant handsets on its GSM network. The FCC is charging AT&T sold legacy GSM handsets that were not E911 capable.
