Action on several communications--related bills, including Internet privacy and an anti-spain measure, was suspended on Thursday when Senate Minority Leader Trent Loft (R-Miss.) imposed the two-hour rule. This rule does not allow committee hearings to last more than two hours after the Senate is in session.

A spokesman for Sen. Fritz Hollings (D-S.C.), chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, said Lott's intention was to stall action on the online privacy bill. The Senate Commerce Committee was set to meet after RCR Wireless News' deadline to continue consideration of the bills.
