KDDI plans video e-mail service. (Business).

TOKYO -- KDDI Corp. said it plans to launch a video e-mail service that will allow customers to send and receive 15-second videos on their handsets on its cdma2000 1x network in September. The carrier introduced four handsets for the service, including Toshiba Corp.'s A5301T, which includes a slot for a secure digital memory card that can store more than 500 five-second video clips.

KDDI also said it would introduce discount pricing plans for the service to encourage customers to use its high-speed network. "We expect about 70 percent of our users to switch to high-end and feature-rich handsets," said Tadashi Onodera, president of KDDI.
